When will this pandemic end? No one could really tell. Last Wednesday, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, the World Health Organization’s chief scientist, told the Financial Time’s Global Boardroom webinar: “I would say in a four to five-year timeframe, we could be looking at controlling this.” Not five weeks, five months, but five years.
Perhaps this is the reason why the government urges the public to adapt to the ‘New Normal’.
After a significant jump in cases was seen in March, our country started to impose a two-weeks Movement Control Order (MCO), which has been announced to be extended until 9th June. Various rules for social distancing have also been implemented throughout the MCO, though have been relaxed gradually, people are still not encouraged to hang out as they did during the pre-pandemic times.
Thus, Malaysians have been spending more time online and have shown more willingness to purchase items online now. Changes in behaviour such as needing to work from home or exploring new hobbies while staying at home also present new opportunities for eCommerce.
Hence, the demand for delivery services has since surged. When MCO was first imposed, multiple popular eCommerce platforms in Malaysia warned their customers to expect delays in receiving their orders. But very soon, many platforms managed to shorten the waiting times.
Have you ever wondered how the logistics industry could maintain the prompt delivery services despite the inconvenience during MCO?
